        Chapter Five: Abandonment Issues

        Ow.

        Is this what pain as a mortal felt like? No wonder they were such feeble creatures. My right hip throbbed and I let out a slight gasp as the pain escalated. For a moment I felt pity for anyone that had to endure such pain, but then I casted the thought aside. That’s not like me.

        I opened my eyes as I lay on the ground, dazed. Where am I? Niflheim? It was black as night here, and the sky was adorned with stars. No, it cannot be. Niflheim is encased in darkness. There is light here. Upon realizing where I was, I groan.

        Midgard.

        I stagger as I attempt to stand. My magic is useless, for it has been taken from me. Collapsing back on the ground, I cry a bit. Being mortal really hurts. I see something in the corner of my eye. It looks to be human. Perhaps I should go check it out.

        Once more, I stagger as I get my footing, and this time I can physically stand. I hobble a bit as I try to walk, and then I begin to walk normally. My hip must merely be badly bruised.

        I approach the figure hesitantly, not knowing if it is awake, or even alive. Bending down softly, I inspect its form.

        It’s a girl. A fairly young girl. A fairly attractive girl. No, stop it! Are these mortal instincts?

        I press my cool hand against her cheek; it seemed unnaturally warm. Are all mortals like this? If so, then why am I so cold?

        All of this was quite confusing, and I found myself getting colder by the second. I’m not a particularly sentimental person (in fact, I have regarded Thor pathetic from his sentiment towards others), but I felt for this girl. Gathering all of my strength, I hoist her up in my arms.

        Now what?

        Oh, was that a shelter I saw? I believe it was. I stumble on my feet from the extra weight of her body, but once more gather my footing as I begin to walk. As I come closer, I realize it is a car. That must have been how she got here.

        I gaze down at her face. The moonlight accents her feminine features brilliantly. She looks so peaceful asleep, but then I find something off. A bump on her head.

        By Odin’s beard! I must’ve crashed into her.

        Remorse. Regret. Everything comes back to my head that I have been building walls around for years. Did I ever injure this girl? How can I even live with myself? I’ve betrayed everyone that I’ve ever loved. I’m stuck here, with nothing but an innocent girl and a ‘sports car’. I should leave before I hurt her more….

        No. I can’t. She shouldn’t have to suffer like I did. To feel abandoned. To feel forgotten. To feel alone.

        No. I would take care of her. I would be better to her. For me, for her, for everyone that I ever hurt. I would love this girl.

        I would be a true friend.

        This ‘car’ opened once I had pulled opened the handle. I placed her idle body by the wheel and I walked to the other side. Pulling the door open for myself, I eased in so as not to disturb her. Shutting the door gently, I adjust myself so that I’m comfortable. Casting a glance her way, I realize that she is in a very uncomfortable position. I reach over and wrap my arms around her to adjust her body, but I find that with my arms around her she seems perfect. She lets out a soft hum of satisfaction as she rubs against me, and I smirk. She hasn’t even met me and she has grown accustomed to my touch.

        I finalize the position so that it’s comfortable for the both of us, and I yawn a bit. Shutting my eyes, I smile. I didn’t think that I would ever thank Odin for anything, but without my banishment I wouldn’t be here, with her….

        …. in this perfect moment.
